Summer Has a Way of Making Every Story Feel Like the Beginning.
There is something wonderfully optimistic about summer.
Every invitation feels like the start of an adventure.
Every road trip deserves its own playlist.
Every sunset seems to whisper,
"Something good is about to happen."
Even mosquitoes show up with unreasonable confidence.
(I don't admire much about mosquitoes, but I do admire their optimism.)
Summer has a way of making every story feel like the beginning.
A first date.
A beach vacation.
A neighborhood cookout.
A concert under the stars.
A chance meeting while standing in line for ice cream.
Before you know it, your imagination has skipped ahead three chapters, while real life is still introducing the characters.
I've been there.
If Hallmark made a movie about my dating history, they'd have enough material for at least three holiday specials and a dramatic season finale.
Summer has always been generous with possibilities.
Sometimes that's exactly what we need.
π Every Beginning Doesn't Need to Become Forever
One of the sweetest things about summer is that it reminds us to stay open.
Open to meeting people.
Open to trying something new.
Open to saying yes a little more often.
That's a beautiful way to live.
The problem isn't openness.
The problem begins when we confuse a promising beginning with a guaranteed ending.
Not every conversation becomes a relationship.
Not every relationship becomes forever.
Not every beautiful chapter is meant to become the whole book.
And that's okay.
π Let the Story Introduce Itself
One thing I've learned (sometimes the hard way) is that stories have their own pace.
We don't have to write the ending on the first page.
We don't have to decide whether someone is "The One" before we've seen how they treat a waiter, handle disappointment, or remember that we don't like onions.
Time has a funny way of introducing character.
If we let it.
π Enjoy the Chapter You're In
I think we spend too much time trying to predict where every story is going.
Maybe summer invites us to do something different.
Enjoy today's conversation.
Laugh at today's joke.
Take today's walk.
Eat today's ice cream.
(See? Ice cream keeps showing up in my writing. I don't think that's an accident.)
Some stories become lifelong friendships.
Some become wonderful relationships.
Some become lessons you'll eventually laugh about with your girlfriends over coffee.
All of them have something to teach us.
π Louise Laugh
Summer has convinced more than one perfectly sensible adult that sharing a beach chair is a sign from the universe.
Sometimes...
it's just the last chair.
π₯ Louise's Truth Bomb
Hope is beautiful.
Just don't ask it to do clarity's job.
π One Last Thought
Summer has a way of making every story feel like the beginning.
Sometimes it is.
Sometimes it's simply a beautiful chapter.
The wonderful thing is that you don't have to know which one you're living today.
Just be present enough to enjoy it.
Curious enough to learn from it.
And wise enough not to rush ahead to the ending before life has finished telling the story.
Because the very best stories...
are worth reading one chapter at a time.
