Well...Sweater Weather Has Entered the Chat 🍂

🍂 TODAY'S OBSERVATION

The temperature drops by ten degrees, and suddenly we're all starring in a lifestyle commercial.

We're making soup.

We're buying sweaters.

We're lighting candles at 3 p.m.

We're drinking things sprinkled with cinnamon.

And people who haven't cooked since April are suddenly saying things like,

"I think I'll make chili."

Fall does this to us.

I don't know why.

I'm just glad that soup has a season again.

Hey, Friend

I am ready for fall.

Not technically, perhaps.

Some places still haven't gotten the memo.

But emotionally?

I've changed seasons.

I want cool mornings.

Warm drinks.

Comfortable clothes.

Something simmering on the stove that makes it look like I've been cooking all day when I've actually been doing other things.

And evenings that don't make me feel guilty about staying home.

Summer Louise wanted adventure.

Fall Louise would like you to text before coming over.

Growth.

🧣 THINGS THAT SUDDENLY BECOME ATTRACTIVE IN FALL

A comfortable sweater.

A good blanket.

Soup.

Someone else making the soup.

Plans getting canceled early enough that you haven't put on real clothes yet.

A man who knows how to start a fire.

In the fireplace, friend. Stay focused.

Fall changes priorities.

🍿 AND THEN HALLMARK GETS INVOLVED

This is where things become dangerous.

After two or three Hallmark movies, perfectly intelligent women begin to believe there is a small mountain town somewhere, populated entirely by handsome, emotionally available men wearing expensive sweaters.

These men own inns.

Christmas tree farms.

Bakeries.

Bookstores.

Occasionally a vineyard.

None of them seem concerned about health insurance.

And every single one has time to help decorate the town square.

Meanwhile, back in real life...

you're wondering why the man you've been texting for six weeks still hasn't suggested dinner.

Friend.

Hallmark is entertainment. Not evidence.

💜 FALL DATING HAS ITS OWN RULES

Cold weather makes companionship look especially attractive.

Someone to cuddle with.

Someone to watch movies with.

Someone to split dessert with.

Someone whose body temperature can finally justify turning the thermostat down.

All perfectly reasonable.

But before you promote somebody to Cuffing Season Companion, ask yourself:

Do I actually like this person?

Or...

am I cold?

These are not the same condition.

One requires emotional compatibility.

The other requires socks.

One day you'll get genuinely excited about a really good blanket.

Not jewelry.

Not nightlife.

A blanket.

And if it's soft enough?

Don't call me. I have plans.

W — Worthy: Cozy is wonderful. Settling isn't.

E — Emotionally Available: Want companionship, but don't confuse loneliness with compatibility.

L — Loving: Make your own life warm enough that you're not inviting just anybody inside it.

L — Looking with Intention: Choose someone you'd still want beside you when the sweaters come off, and spring shows up.

Don't let sweater weather lower standards that survived swimsuit season.

You worked too hard for those standards.

Keep them.

The season deserves a little fantasy. Your dating life still needs facts.
